Sometimes bio-based plastics are not completely made from plants. Bio-based content in these plastics can be determined by using certain standards such as CEN/TS 16137 for polymers and EN 16785-1 for products. This content is usually shown as a percentage.

In the recycling stream, loose plastic bags are challenging to manage and can block machinery. Single-use bags may be recycled by certain recycling firms if they are packaged tightly and knotted.
